Books for Maui auction
Hi everyone. This is just a quick note to share the Books for Maui auction, which opened this morning. The auction is raising money for Maui relief efforts related to the devastating fire in Lāhainā.
From the organizers:
On Tuesday, August 8th, a wildfire swept through Lāhainā on the island of Maui. It quickly consumed hundreds of structures and destroyed families. Although seen by some as a tourist destination, Lāhainā has deep ties to Native Hawaiians as the former capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom and a place of great political power, history, and cultural significance. It is home to a vast number of Native Hawaiians, who are currently in great need and are leading much of the disaster relief efforts. Due to gentrification of Lāhainā, there are clear disparities between residents and we want to support those with familial connections to this `āina (land).
Here’s where the funds go:
I donated a kidlit illustration portfolio review and a picture book manuscript critique, so if you or anyone you know is interested in kidlit, please bid!
There are literally hundreds of options—books, swag, school visits, AMAs, critiques, agent chats and more. You can probably get my entries and some others for a steal because there are so many choices!
If you know any writers, illustrators, or readers who might want to bid, please share this with them!
